General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the European regulation to strengthen and unify the data protection of EU citizens. As of the 25th of May 2018, all companies worldwide that store and process data about EU citizens will be required to comply with GDPR.
One of the main achievements of GDPR is its increased territorial scope, which means that GDPR also will apply to businesses outside the EU if their data activities relate to the offering of goods and services to individuals in the EU. GDPR expands its territorial scope well beyond the EU, essentially making it global law.
Therefore, all the Georgian organizations that collect and process personal data of EU citizens will have to comply with General Data Protection Regulation.
Under GDPR, organizations in breach of GDPR can be fined up to 4% of annual global turnover or €20 Million (whichever is greater).
